Rotterdam ‘beach’ set to re-open
11 May 2004
AMSTERDAM — Rotterdam residents will again be able to enjoy a stroll along the strand without leaving the city this year, with the creation of a beach along the Maas River.
The city’s beach will be open from 19 May, allowing residents to enjoy the sun, cocktails, music and passing boats, news agency ANP reported on Tuesday.
Rotterdam’s special events bureau said the beach will be located just past the Erasmusbrug in the city heart. Its opening will signify the start of the city’s summer festivals.
The beach proved extremely popular last year and beach goers will again be able to enjoy dancing and swinging salsa music at the stretch of sand. Other performances and sport activities are also planned.
