AMSTERDAM — Princess Maxima is pregnant with her third child, the government information service RVD announced on Monday.
“The birth of the third child of the Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima is expected in the second half of April 2007,” the RVD said.
Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima said they were “thankful and pleased” with the pregnancy.
The new baby is fourth in line to the Dutch throne, after Prince Willem-Alexander and the crown princesses Amalia and her sister Alexia.
Maxima’s doctor has advised her to take it easy in coming weeks, but the RVD said that will not have any impact on her public duties.
The Argentine-born princess will be seen at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam on Thursday and will depart for a visit to Australia and New Zealand with Willem-Alexander in October.
The trip down under is an intensive two-week trip, with a large number of domestic flights as well.
The royal couple is visiting Australia because the Netherlands and Australia are celebrating 400 years of relations.
They will also travel to New Zealand, a country that has fond memories for the couple: they spent part of their honeymoon there.
Prince Willem-Alexander and Maxima were married in Amsterdam on 2 February 2002.
Their first child Catharina-Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria was born on 7 December 2003. Her sister Alexia Juliana Marcela Laurentien followed on 26 June 2005. Both girls were born in The Hague.
