Man dies after Dam to Dam run

Amsterdam – A 39-year-old man participating in the Amsterdam Dam to Dam run went into a cardiac arrest and died later in the hospital Sunday.

The man was just a hundred metres away from the finishing line in Zaandam when he collapsed and had to be resuscitated. He was taken to a hospital where he died. The reason for his death remains unclear.

Out of the 35,000 participants, about 27 participants reported at the first aid stations with complaints of overheating and that they felt unwell.

As it was quite a warm day Sunday, organisers of Dam to Dam had offer additional water points as a precautionary measure to keep runners hydrated.

The Dam to Dam is an annual running event from Amsterdam to Zaandam in September.
