Man arrested over train station suicide threat

14 September 2004

AMSTERDAM — Dutch police evacuated the central train station in The Hague at about 4.30pm on Tuesday after a man doused himself in petrol and threatened to commit suicide.

Police eventually overpowered the man and arrested him, NOS Teletext reported. The suspect has not yet been identified, but reportedly did not speak Dutch. His motives were not immediately clear.

All train travel to and from The Hague was halted at about 5.10pm as police negotiated with the man — who was also carrying a knife — in the station’s central hall.
