WW II, surely not again!…..Indeed this musical is not another lesson in history, rather it explores the human experiences of people caught up in the events of the second World War.
According to Ian Gale, the director of Jan Royce Productions, "this subject, presented as a musical, is certainly controversial, but I believe the work is both sensitive and appropriate. The story paints no other colour than that of our common humanity; our ambitions, our loves, our losses. As humans we celebrate the joys of life, and experience the horrors and misery of life, together.”
The diverse and international cast, working with the modern ‘lyrical’ music score, brings a contemporary reality to the characters of the time. It illustrates how little our perspectives of prejudice, nationalism and war have changed in 50 years.
