AMSTERDAM — In memory of his deceased wife, Guusje Nederhorst, the lead singer of Dutch rock band Kane released a song in her memory on Wednesday as the popular actress was buried in a closed funeral.

Nederhorst, 34, died last week of cancer and the proceeds from the song will be donated to the Dutch cancer fund, the Koningin Wilhelmina Fonds Kankerbestrijding.

The Kane song is called Dreamer and is subtitled Gussies song, newspaper De Telegraaf reported. It was played simultaneously on Dutch commercial radio stations at 12 midday on Wednesday.
 
Nederhorst is survived by her husband and Kane lead singer Dinand Woesthoff, 31, and their seven-month-old son Dean Maddy.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2003, soon after giving birth and died of her illness in her Scheveningen home early on Thursday 29 January.

Best known for her role in the Dutch soap Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (Good Times, Bad Times), Nederhorst also set up a band with actresses Babette van Veen and Katja Schuurman. The band, known as Linda Roos en Jessica, scored a couple of hit songs.

She was buried among a closed circle of mourners on Wednesday, on what would have been her 35th birthday.
