Guerilla snapped up by Sony

8 December 2005

AMSTERDAM – Amsterdam software company Media Republic has sold its games division Guerilla, developers of the successful Killzone title, to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe for an undisclosed amount.

Guerilla developed Killzone exclusively for Sony’s PlayStation 2 and has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide since it launched the title in November 2004, making it the most successful Dutch videogame ever made and one of the best-selling games for Sony.

Around 100 Guerilla staff will remain in its Herengracht office but will now be employees of Sony. The games maker is currently working on a new version of Killzone for the PlayStation 3, the new Sony games machine to be launched some time next year.

Media Republic will continue to develop games for Internet and mobile phones.
