AMSTERDAM — Police have arrested five boys, aged between 13 and 16, who were allegedly involved in a gang rape of a 14-year-old Rotterdam girl in March, it was announced on Wednesday.

Police allege the girl was enticed into a home in the suburb Beverwaard by an acquaintance, who has since been accused of her rape. The other four boys, who also arrived at the house, are also alleged to have sexually abused the girl.

The girl later escaped, but did not dare to immediately report the matter to police. The rape is alleged to have occurred on 3 March and the boys were arrested on Monday.

The suspects have confessed to the rape and will appear in court on Thursday, newspaper De Telegraaf said on Wednesday.

The incident comes after Amsterdam Court sentenced in April a 16-year-old boy to youth TBS psychiatric detention for his role in a group rape of a teenage girl in October 2003.

The cases against two other suspects, aged 15 and 16, were adjourned because the court wanted them to be examined further.

The trio forced its way into an Amsterdam East apartment and a 17-year-old girl was subsequently raped. They also forced six boys to perform sexual acts with the girl. The crime was captured on videotape by the culprits.
