Five arrested for aborted kidnapping

26 May 2004

AMSTERDAM — Five youths have been arrested for abducting an 18-year-old man, Dutch police revealed Wednesday. The suspects intended to beat up the victim who was at the centre of a “financial argument”, it was claimed.

The five suspects are from Hardenberg, Collendoorn and Loozen. They range in age from 16 to 23. One of the suspects is a female.

The victim, from Lutten, has told police the gang grabbed him and put him in the trunk of a car. The plan was, the victim claims, that he would be taken to a different location and beaten up as a result of a dispute over money.

It is alleged the plan fell apart when the driver got cold feet and released the victim from the trunk of car.

One of the suspects appeared before a court on Wednesday for a remand hearing and the other four are due in court on Thursday.
