Doubts about e-voting in EU elections

Serious doubts have been expressed by experts about the plan to allow Dutch people living overseas to use the internet to cast their votes in the European Elections in June, digital media website DMEurope has reported. A specialist panel reviewing the technology has sent a report to the Dutch Lower House of Parliament, Tweede Kamer, warning of 150 potential security and privacy issues – one of the most serious being the prospect of a so-called denial-of-service attack which might cause the system to stop working.

Police raid second trailer park

Twelve people were arrested and 16 cannabis-growing operations were dismantled when police, supported by specialist riot officers, carried out a raid on a trailer park in The Hague Wednesday. The authorities said the raid was mounted in response to reports cannabis was being cultivated on the site. Earlier this month, five lorry loads of cannabis plants were removed from the Vinkenslag trailer park in Maastricht following a raid involving 400 police officers.

Minor leak on Soyuz ‘no danger’ to Kuipers

The Russian Soyuz spacecraft that will return three astronauts, including Dutchman Andre Kuipers, to Earth from the International Space Station this week is leaking helium, Russian space officials said Wednesday. The leak is very minor and does not pose any danger, a spokeswoman told The Associated Press. NASA also said the leak poses no threat.

Girl, 5, sexually assaulted in Amsterdam

A five-year-old girl was attacked and sexually assaulted by a stranger near Surinameplein square in Amsterdam on Monday evening. Police have refused to give details of the attack but say they are looking for a man who is believed to be aged about 35.
