Woman stabs health worker
A woman stabbed and seriously injured a health worker in a Flierbosdreef shelter in south-east Amsterdam on Tuesday morning. The female worker was taken to hospital with a chest wound, the police said. The reason for the incident is unclear but officers said the suspect was in a confused frame of mind.
Whistleblower ‘threatened’
Former building company director Ad Bos claims both he and his family were threatened because he revealed details of widespread fraud within the construction industry in the Netherlands. Speaking to former politician Paul Rosenmoller on a television programme on Tuesday, Bos said the threats started after he revealed the existence of shadow accounts that showed companies had been overcharging on large infrastructural projects for the government. Bos also said he had found out who was responsible for the threats but he would not say who it was.
Man found dead on A12
An unidentified man was found dead on the hard shoulder of the A12 to The Hague on Tuesday morning. Police say he was killed and have launched a murder investigation. The man was found lying near his delivery van near Woerden after police received a call to say there was a sick man on the road.
Amsterdam hit by power cut
A large section of the Oud Zuid district in Amsterdam was hit by a power cut on Tuesday morning. The affected area stretched from the A10 near the Olympic stadium to Van Baerlestraat. Trams and traffic lights were also without power from about 9.30 to 11am, Amsterdam television station AT5 said. The cause of the power cut is unknown.
