AMSTERDAM — Dennis Hoogeveen (16) from Hoogeveen could not wait for author JK Rowling to publish the sixth instalment of the Harry Potter saga so he wrote his own in Dutch.
Hoogeveen’s ‘Harry Potter en de Fakkel met Groene Vlammen’ (Harry Potter and the torch with green flames) cannot be published in book form for copyright reasons. It is only available on his website.
It took him over a year to write the 213-page story. His Dutch teacher Dianne Bekkers and proofreader Ed Stuij from Groningen helped to edit it.
“It was not the intention to write a book. It began as a joke. I wanted to foretell the end of the murderous wizard Voldemort myself,” Hoogeveen said in an email to news agency ANP on Tuesday.
And writing in English on his site, Hoogeveen said to international readers: “I might go and translate the other pages on this site. But to translate the whole book will be a bit hard. Sorry for that.”
He said he has developed a taste for writing but his next book will not be about Harry Potter.
