Beckham tries to stop ‘lover’ TV interview

15  April 2004

LONDON –  David Beckham was consulting lawyers to try to stop an extraordinary television interview with the woman who claims she was his lover from being aired Thursday.

Former PA, Dutchwoman Rebecca Loos, whose interview is to be aired Thursday night in Britain, has insisted she felt no shame and said she had spoken out because she “could not live a lie”.

She has claimed her mother warned of the dangers of getting involved with a married man.

But it is unlikely Beckham will be able to stop the television interview from being shown in Britain as legal experts say sexual relationships are not covered by confidentiality laws.

In the interview, Loos claimed: “I was very aware of what I was getting myself into but just couldn’t stop it.”

Speaking to Britain’s Sky TV, which has paid her a six-figure sum, the 25-year-old said: “I am 100 percent sure of what I’m talking about. There’s no doubt in my mind. I have no reason to lie. Why should I?”

She added: “At the end of the day these are the facts, this is what happened. It was wrong and I was wrong to have done what I did, I know that.

“But it did happen and I’m not going to live a lie for the rest of my life.”

Loos claims she had sex with Beckham on four occasions during September and December last year.

Beckham, 28, who first met Loos after signing for Real Madrid in a GBP 25 million move from Manchester United, has strongly denied the accusations.

When the story broke 10 days ago Beckham described Loos’s allegations as “ludicrous” and insisted that he was “very happily married”.

In her interview, to be screened on Sky One Thursday,  Loos said she was left feeling “breathless” and “very happy” after spending several hours in Beckham’s hotel room.
