Italy to tax tourists

Italian authorities plan to introduce a hotel tax. The proposal is one of the items of the anti-crisis programme premier Berlusconi intends to carry out with an eye at reducing state expenditure. The idea of taxing visitors to Rome, Florence and Venice was first voiced in 2006 – but was discarded then.
