Russian helicopter pilot in Sudan freed: official

The Russian pilot of a helicopter who went missing while on a mission in Sudan's Darfur region was freed late Thursday and has returned to the UN mission there, the special Russian representative Mikhail Marguelov said, cited by the Interfax news agency.

"The helicopter pilot who had disappeared in Sudan on July 26 and had been taken prisoner has been freed and is back in the UN mission" in the western Sudanese province, Interfax quoted Marguelov as saying.
