Three Chechens suspected of links to a person involved in the Moscow twin suicide bombings that killed 40 in March have been arrested and charged in France, a judicial source said.

The three, whose identities and ages were not specified, were arrested last week near the western city of Mans as part of a broad investigation opened in December by prosecutors in Paris.

They are suspected of links with a man arrested in Russia for links to terrorist activities, the source said, adding that the probe was launched following a request from Russian authorities.

They are believed to have provided the man with logistical support.

A fourth person arrested by French police was later released without charge, the source said.

The Emirate of Caucasus group headed by Chechen Islamist leader Doku Umarov has claimed responsibility for the March attacks on the Moscow metro, carried out by two female suicide bombers.
