WWII veteran on Spandau Citadel

The fortress held the bridge across the Havel River under permanent artillery fire to intercept troops, military hardware and ammunition. To prevent the civilians within the walls of Spandau from being harmed in the course of assault, the Soviet Command decided to persuade the garrison to surrender.
