On May 4th, 1945 Soviet troops continued to advance through Czechoslovakia against fierce German resistance. A Soviet division made an end-run, leaving German forces no chance to retreat westwards through a narrow mountain valley. Soviet troops seized several settlements to the west of the town of Brno. They faced German resistance and counter attacks.
