Ukraine transit cannot replace South Stream Shmatko

The Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko has dismissed speculation that a merger between Russia’s Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz, as proposed by Prime Minister Putin at talks in April, can eliminate the need for the South Stream pipeline to Europe under the Black Sea.
