Every year, on the last Monday of May, the US marks Memorial Day. This federal holiday commemorates US soldiers who died while in the military service. People bring flowers to the tombs, pay their tributes to the veterans and attend parades and concerts of military bands. The tradition goes back to the 1868, soon after the American Civil War.
