Switzerland to release aid money for Russia wildfires
Switzerland is releasing 500,000 Swiss francs (360,000 euros, 475,000 dollars) in aid to help Russia battle devastating wildfires, the Swiss foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
The money will go towards protective material for those attempting to contain blazing fires across Russia, which have already killed 52 people according to official figures.
The Swiss government will also send a four-person team to supervise the delivery of the material and examine the ability of provincial hospitals to adequately care for victims, the foreign ministry said.
Despite a thick smog that continues to choke the Russian capital Moscow and a rising death toll, Switzerland has ruled out evacuating its embassy workers for the moment.
