Russian Yuri Fedotov new head of UN crime, drugs office

UN chief Ban ki-Moon has appointed Russian diplomat Yuri Fedotov as the new director of the United Nations Office of Crime and Drugs (ONUDC), officials said Friday.

Fedotov will also head the UN office in Vienna, where ONUDC is headquartered, UN spokesman Farhan Haq added.

The Russian diplomat will replace Italian Antonio Maria Costa after eight years as ONUDC director.

Fedotov, 63, is currently Russia’s ambassador to Britain. A career diplomat since 1971, he has held several posts at the United Nations and also served as Russia’s deputy minister of foreign affairs.
