Russia to miss London conference on Libya

Russia will not attend a London conference discussing the international coalition’s military action against Libya because it was not invited, a top diplomat said Monday.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will not be attending Tuesday’s gathering “because Russia is not a part of the coalition (and) we did not receive an invitation,” the unnamed official told Interfax.

Russia abstained from the UN Security Council resolution that authorised the military action, refraining from using its veto which would have prevented the motion being adopted.
