Russia sending aid to Kyrgyzstan, no troops: Kremlin

Published on 12/06/2010

Russia is rushing humanitarian aid to violence-torn Kyrgyzstan but is not prepared to send troops under the current circumstances, President Dmitry Medvedev's spokeswoman said Saturday.

“This is an internal conflict and Russia does not yet see the conditions for its participating in resolving it,” Natalya Timakhova was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.

She added that the decision to send peacekeeping forces to the region could be taking only after consultations with the United Nations.

At least 65 people have been killed and more than 900 wounded during clashes between ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz in the south of the strategically-vital Central Asian state.
