Russia and China hold security talks

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday held a scheduled round of security talks with one of China’s most senior foreign policy officials, the Kremlin said.

The talks with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, who also serves as deputy foreign minister, were designed to coordinate the neighbours’ approach to outstanding security issues, ITAR-TASS quoted a Kremlin official as saying.

The Kremlin said Medvedev and Dai focused on ways the two countries could “strengthen notational, regional and international security,” without providing further details.

China’s Xinhua news agency reported out of Beijing that the talks came as part of annual negotiations that the two sides have been holding since 2005.
