Patriarch Kirill has laid wreaths and conducted a memorial service on the site of the 1943 tank battle near Prokhorovka in the Region of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine. The service was in a church built in 1995 ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
