Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty helps counter threats and challenges

The term of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty was extended indefinitely 10 years ago. Many positive aspects of the document have since proved universal in character. On the other hand, some treaty-related problems have arisen over the period. For instance, India, Israel and Pakistan, which have developed nuclear weapons, have failed to join the treaty.
