Japans Tokunoshima Island opposes US military base on its territory

The authorities of the Japanese island of Tokunoshima have rejected a request by Japan’s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to house a US Marine military base on its territory. The mayors of the three biggest settlements of the island said that was the will of the majority of the island’s population.
