On May 3, 1979 the Tories won the General Election and its leader Margaret Thatcher became the first in the UK history woman Prime Minister. Mrs. Thatcher launched a new era in British history. She conducted economic and social reforms, namely privatized state-owned companies, which was the basis of ";popular capitalism"; in Britain.
