Twenty-year-old Austrian fan dies of heart failure

VIENNA – A young Austrian woman died of heart failure in Vienna hospital after collapsing in the city’s fan zone while watching the Euro 2008 match between Austria and Germany.

The APA news agency reported on Tuesday the 20-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after her collapse on Monday night, but doctors were unable to save her life.

Last Thursday, a young Croatian fan died of heart failure while watching his team’s match with Germany in Klagenfurt.

Some 75,000 fans had gathered on Monday night in the Vienna fan zone to watch the Germany-Austria game. The ORF radio reported that many fans required medical treatment for circulatory problems.
