GHENT – The Swiss Bank UBS is opening an office in Ghent in Belgium, following the success of the offices the bank has in Brussels and Antwerp.

According to the manager of UBS Belgium, Thomas Steiger, Ghent is the perfect operating base for the province of East Flanders, reported  Flemish daily De Tijd and its francophone counterpart L’Echo.

In Belgium, UBS is targeting a wealthy clientele. At the end of 2007, the bank managed a capital of EUR 3.2 billion in Belgium. The largest share of the capital is in Brussels.

Swiss bank manager Steiger assumes that Ghent will generate a fourth of the bank’s income in a year’s time. There are no plans to open further branches in Belgium.
