Sanders secured 447 Swiss votes compared to his rival Hillary Clinton’s 319 votes in the Democrats Abroad’s Global Presidential Primary. Switzerland accounted for 2.2% of the 34,570 votes cast across 170 countries. The results include in-person, postal, fax and email votes. 

The outcome of the Democrats Abroad ballot means that Sanders gains nine additional pledged delegates while Clinton secures four. 

Switzerland belongs to the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. The other regions are the Asia Pacific and the Americas. Delegates are allotted based on the number of voters in that region compared to the total number of voters. EMEA accounted for slightly over 60% of all votes ensuring that it is allocated the most number of delegates. 

In Switzerland, the city of Geneva has the most number of Democrats, almost twice as many as second placed Zurich. It is also where the Democrats Abroad Switzerland are based. Other cities with a significant number of Democrat voters are Basel, Bern and Lugano.
