Streller to continue Switzerland career

17 June 2008

ZURICH – Marco Streller will reportedly continue his career as Switzerland forward after being convinced by new coach Ottmar Hitzfeld not to retire from the team.

The Tages-Anzeiger daily said that Hitzfeld, who takes over from Koebi Kuhn, met with Streller on Monday and talked him into staying on the team.

Streller, 27, had announced his retirement after Euro 2008 in frustration about jeering fans at a pre-tournament tuneup match.

Streller played in the first Swiss Euro match with the Czech Republic, but a groin injury prevented him from playing in the other games with Turkey and Portugal as the team was eliminated.
