Russia and Ukraine hold talks on gas

MOSCOW - Mr Putin said before the start of the talks that he was optimistic that an agreement would be reached and that gas deliveries to Europe would resume.
The Russian prime minister has proposed that European countries form a consortium which would pay for the extra costs of delivering gas through Ukrainian territory.
Some countries in Central and Eastern Europe have been rationing gas since Russia stopped deliveries on 7 January.
