Pakistan floods displace almost a million: UN

Around 980,000 people have lost their homes or been displaced by Pakistan’s worst floods in living memory, the United Nations said Monday, warning the figure was expected to rise above a million.

“A rapid assessment carried out by the UN World Food Programme in four districts — Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan and Peshawar — puts the figure of people who have lost their homes or are temporarily displaced at nearly 980,000,” said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

“This means that as the team continues carrying out assessments in the other districts of the province, the number of affected people is expected to rise above one million,” it added in its latest situation report.
