Paerson doubles up with super-g triumph

The seven-time world champion, who clinched the downhill on Saturday, clocked 1 minute 15.06 seconds to get the better of Canada’s Emily Brydon by just 0.04 seconds.

Last season’s super-g World Cup winner Renate Goetschl of Austria was 0.22 seconds behind Paerson in third place.

Paerson’s win was even narrower than her triumph Saturday when she got the better of Lindsey Vonn of the United States by 0.08 seconds in the downhill.

It was a tight super-g with less than a second separating the first 19 finishers and only 0.05 seconds between Goetschl in third place and Nicole Hosp of Austria in sixth.

Between them were the Austrian Elisabeth Goergl and Maria Riesch of Germany.

Paerson now has 37 career World Cup wins, putting her fourth above Germany’s Katja Seizinger in the list of all-time World Cup victories, but still well behind leader Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria who has 62.

In the overall standings, Paerson moves ahead on 383 points of Hosp (379) and fellow-Austrian Marlies Schild (354).

Paerson also leads the super-g standings on 136, followed by Martina Schild of Switzerland (129) and Riesch (125). dpa
