Olmert says Israel will continue offensive

ISRAEL – Olmert says it is necessary to continue fighting so that the inhabitants of southern Israel can live in peace.

On Sunday, Israel carried out air attacks and artillery bombardments on dozens of targets throughout the densely populated region.

It also blew up smugglers’ tunnels and weapons stores. Israeli ground troops also continued their advance into Gaza City. Palestinian forces responded by firing dozes of rockets at Israel.

Since the Israeli offensive began on 27 December, more than 850 people have died and 3,600 have been injured.
