Li Hongqi’s ‘Winter Vacation’ tops Locarno film fest

“Winter Vacation”, a film by Chinese director Li Hongqi about aimless adolescents in a northern village, picked up the top prize Saturday at the Locarno film festival.

The best director honour went to Canada’s Denis Cote for “Curling”, with Emmanuel Bilodeau picking up the best male actor award for his portrayal of the father in the film, which explores the unusual private life of a man and his daughter.

Jasna Durici won the best actress award for her role in the Serbian film White White World.

Singaporean director Eric Khoo headed up the jury of the 63rd Locarno film festival, which opened on August 4.
