Last of Euro teams arrive in Switzerland

5 June 2008

GENEVA – Bad weather forced the French national team to divert to Geneva airport Wednesday as the last of the Euro 2008 squads based in Switzerland was due to arrive.

The team was unable to land at Sion as planned, said UEFA, and was due to arrive Wednesday evening. The diversion meant a few extra kilometres by bus to reach their hotel, the Mirador Kempinski above Vevey near Lausanne.

Earlier, the Swedish team took up residence in Lugano in southern Switzerland. They arrived at Agno airport a day after Germany and headed to their hotel, the Villa Sassa in Lugano.

They were greeted by 200 school children dressed in the team colours of yellow and blue.
