Israeli cabinet meeting

JERUSALEM - The government is expected to end the offensive because its objectives have been achieved. Israeli troops will remain in parts of the Gaza Strip for the time being.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will hold a speech after the meeting.

Earlier today, the Israeli military attacked dozens of targets in the Gaza Strip, hitting tunnels, bunkers and mine fields.

Palestinian sources say at least six people were killed in the bombardment of a United Nations school at Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip.

Hamas has already announced that it will continue to fire rockets into Israel. Israeli officials say they will interrupt the ceasefire if Hamas continues to fire rockets at Israeli towns.
