Greece select Salzburg as Euro 2008 base, Portugal Neuchatel

The Greek football federation confirmed Friday that Otto Rehhagel’s side will stay in Hof am Fuschlsee ahead of their Group D opener against Sweden on June 10 in Salzburg.

Portugal, meanwhile, have chosen the Swiss town of Neuchatel as their base ahead of group games against Turkey and the Czech Republic in Geneva and Switzerland in Basle.

So far, 12 of the 16 competing teams at next year’s tournament have chosen their base. Only Italy, Spain, Turkey and Poland have yet to select one.

Germany will stay in the Swiss town of Ascona despite playing their group matches in Austria while Sweden have booked a Swiss hotel in Lugano.

The Czechs have chosen Seefeld in Austria even though their group matches are in Switzerland.

Austria will be based in Stegersbach, Croatia in Bad Tatzmannsdorf and Russia in Leogang. Switzerland have chosen Feusisberg near Zurich, the Netherlands are in Lausanne and France in Mont Pelerin near Lake Geneva. DPA
