European Parliament launches online TV

18 September 2008

BRUSSELS — The European Parliament has launched a new Web-based TV channel to reach out to young people and bolster its image.

The parliament’s president, Hans-Gert Poettering, says the channel at www.europarltv.europa.eu will offer widespread audio and video, including live broadcasts of events at the legislature and user-made videos.

The TV channel went online on Wednesday.

The channel follows similar moves by other EU institutions and organisations like NATO to broadcast its own content directly to the general public, bypassing media outlets.
