GENEVA – A Swiss court has ruled that a brother of the United Arab Emirates’ ruler is guilty of assaulting an American man in a luxury Geneva hotel bar.

The Geneva police tribunal has fined Sheik Falah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan CHF 10,000. In addition he faces a suspended penalty of CHF 540,000.

The judgment says the sheik hit Silvano Orsi repeatedly with a steel-buckled belt after Orsi declined champagne from the sheik.

The judgment obtained by The Associated Press Tuesday said the sheik also had to pay the cost for the lawyers and the proceedings amounting to CHF 2,879.

Orsi is from Rochester, New York.
