Celebrities donate pay to Heath Ledger’s child

20 August 2008

LOS ANGELES / LONDON – Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell are donating their salaries from the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, to Matilda Ledger, the daughter of the late actor Heath Ledger, according to news reports Tuesday.

Ledger had started filming the fantasy movie when he died from an accidental prescription drug overdose in January. The three stars stepped in to fill Ledger’s role when filming resumed in March.

They decided to donate their fees to his daughter after discovering that she was left out of his will.

"They didn’t take money – it goes to Heath’s daughter," director Terry Gilliam told Britain’s The Sun newspaper.

"That’s extraordinary! And wonderful … and when you’re part of that, you think, ‘Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies in the beginning. I thought it would be full of wonderful people’."

Gilliam said: "We’ve got a movie full of wonderful people who did extraordinary things to help."
