Cancellara extends deal with Team CSC
28 July 2008
SWITZERLAND – World champion Fabian Cancellara extended his contract with Team CSC until 2011.
The 27-year-old Swiss sprint specialist has 46 career wins, including nine successes this year.
Other big victories in Cancellara’s career include Paris-Roubaix 2006, the 2006 and 2007 time trial worlds, the Tour of Denmark 2006 and three stage wins in Tour de France, where he’s also worn the yellow jersey for nine days.
"I’m totally convinced that I can be even better yet," Cancellara said. "Now I have the perfect horizon in relation to my career and I look forward to the next three years with my teammates and the results we’re going to achieve together."
CSC boss Bjarne Riis sees Cancellara as a unique rider in modern cycling.
"We’re extremely lucky to have someone like him," Riis said. "Who can win the great spring classics, is the best time trial rider in the world and at the same time both can and is willing to make an effort for the team?"
