Black market Euro 2008 tickets for sale over ebay

A price of 3,500 dollars (2,430 euros) is being asked for two quarter-final tickets in Vienna, while 900 dollars is wanted for a ticket for the group stage match been Italy and France in Zurich.

Around two dozen tickets are for sale via ebay, according to SDA.

European football’s governing body UEFA says black-market ticket sales are illegal. Anyone selling tickets on the black market risks a fine of 5,000 euros and confiscation of the tickets.

"We are watching to see how the situation develops. We reserve the right to take action against illegal vendors," a spokesman said.

Ticket sales via the national federations who have qualified for the tournament go on sale at the end of January. Almost 400,000 tickets, or 38 per cent, will be available.

UEFA began selling tickets earlier this year for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland from June 7 to 29. A further contingent will go on sale to teams who progress from the group stage.

A total of 1.05 million tickets are available for the 32 matches. However, there were more than 10 million requests during the first sales phase. dpa
