Albania approves British-Swiss port

TIRANA – Albania agreed to give a 35-year concession to the British-Swiss Zumax AG group to build a container terminal for ships in the southwestern port of Vlora, the Transport Ministry said Wednesday.

The port terminal at Vlora, 140 kilometres southwest of the capital Tirana, is expected to be the biggest on the Mediterranean. Construction would begin in May and cost 1.18 EUR billion (CHF 1.78 billion), the ministry said.

The Albanian government said in a statement it also received the group’s demand to create a free-trade zone "which will be very attractive for foreign investments".
