LAUSANNE – Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has received an honorary doctorate from the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.
Gore accepted the title on Tuesday at a ceremony attended by Swiss President Pascal Couchepin and about 1,500 officials and students. The institute says the ceremony was closed to the media at Gore’s request.
He won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global-warming issues together with the U.N. panel on climate change.
The institute says it will create a new chair for sustainable development. A professor for the position has yet to be selected.
