Afro-Pfingsten Festival: Worldmusic Live concerts 2011

The worldmusic live concerts 2011 are the highlight of the Afro-Pfingsten Festival. In the exotic atmosphere of the "Halle 53", gifted musicians from various corners of the world take you on a musical discovery tour.

The festival offers various concerts, markets, workshops and various side programs.

Concert Program 2011

Friday, 10th June: Roots and Reggae
The laid-back stars of the Friday evening concerts soothe your roots and reggae fever with dreadlocks, groovy sound and positive vibrations. 

Saturday, 11th June: Global Night
International stars of African, Oriental and Latin music take you to exotic corners of the world music scene and provide you with a memorable Saturday night.

Sunday Afternoon, 12th June: Africa Music
Established artists and newly discovered musicians from Africa introduce their multifaceted continent with earthy sounds and captivating rhythms. 

Sunday Evening, 12th June: Women Voices
With thrilling voices and colourful melodies, African artists share their joy of life and turn the Sunday concerts into a celebration that’s not to be missed.

Markets in the Old Town of Winterthur
Every year, the Afro-Pfingsten markets attract ten thousands of visitors from Switzerland and neighboring countries to Winterthur. More than 300 market stalls turn the historic old town into a colourful bazaar with exotic goods and attractions from all around the world.

African Market
The colourful African market is a place of inexhaustible richness. From high quality handicraft to culinary specialities, the market offers a broad range of exotic products. 

World Bazaar
The world bazaar invites you on a trip around the globe. A wide range of products from all over the world and fun street performances await you here.

FairFair
FairFair is a market focusing on fairness. It raises awareness for global issues, explains their causes and calls for action. Various organisations demonstrate the impact of solidarity and fair trade. 

Note: To respect the public holiday, all markets in the old town remain closed on Whitsunday. Instead, join the festivities at Katharina Sulzer-Platz:

How to get to the festival

The Afro-Pfingsten Festival takes place in the centre of Winterthur. By foot, you can reach all markets and the concert hall "Halle 53" within just a few minutes. We recommend travelling to Winterthur by train and bus. 

Every Afro-Pfingsten concert ticket includes a train and bus ticket, as well as the night surcharge for the ZVV area (Zürcher Verkehrsverbund). More information on www.zvv.ch/events
