WARSAW - Stray dogs from Poland are in high demand among German dog-lovers, according to a Monday report in the Newsweek Polska news magazine.
With stray animals a rarity in Germany, animal lovers there have adopted at least 400 dogs and 70 cats from overpopulated and dismal Polish shelters over the last two years, Newsweek notes.
Since 1 October new European Union regulations stipulate that like all pet cats, dogs and ferrets travelling between member-states, Polish animals need special EU-wide pet passports" proving they have been vaccinated against rabies and other diseases.
